Unfortunately we do not offer any other Dometic brand thermostat, other than the # DMC79FR which does use touch buttons. This is actually a known issue with these Dometic thermostats. Removing the face plate usually will allow it to function normally. Using PVC (white pipe) between ABS fittings (black) is not usually an optimal setup on a trailer because of the movement during transport and colder temperatures can cause PVC to break more easily.
The Oatey Purple is a PVC primer and not a glue so it wouldn't adhere correctly. Using a green transition glue as well as the purple primer on the PVC pipe could have worked however.
